The best way to keep your camera store while studying abroad?

I'm taking my Canon 40D $ 1,400 D-SLR and lenses with me while abroad I'm studying in Italy for four months. What is the best way to keep it safe while I'm there? Is there any good stock to get to do it is very noticeable? Thank you.
