Can anyone help me decide which lens is comparable to a Canon camera?

I intend to buy a Canon Rebel T1i. Comes with 18-55mm. I need to get a telephoto and wide angle lens too. If I buy this camera, I am limited to buy than the Canon lenses? Otherwise, the Tamron (or any other brand) with the objective of work?

Tamron, Tokina and Sigma make lenses that are compatible with the EOS mount that uses T1i.
