Using 550EX Flash for marriage?

I'll use a Canon 40D and Canon 550EX Flash for a wedding in two weeks. My problem is that the works ETTL flash, but not like eTTL2 580EX. From what Ive heard eTTL1 have problems with red eyes when used in sync high speed .. I guess it should not be a problem will not be too many action scenes, etc. Is there anything else you should know that when eTTL1 you use? .. I do not mind using manual flash if necessary. Red Eye is easy to avoid, just do the flash away from the target. Support the camera and spinal shoes (to keep control TTL) does. Another method is to leave the flash on a stand, but retain TTL will have a long rope or a configuration wizard pocket very expensive.
