Canon 580ex Flash Tutorial

Something I always recommend photographers wondering what equipment to buy is a small flash. Even if you only use the camera flash unit can be a tremendous help in many different situations. However, one area that I understand that people are often reluctant to enter, using the flash off camera.
A common misconception is that it takes more than a flash drive to get decent light flash off camera. While flashes additional help, there is an incredible amount of things you can do with one. With simple solutions that you can often believe that more than one.

1. Backlight
A flashback and / or slightly off the subject can do wonders. The high contrast, the flare, halos, like everything. If only I have a flash with me and I want to spice up a photo a bit, it's my go-to. Only Spock (put) a flash behind the subject, experiment with the power settings, and watch the magic happen.
2. Fill
You can do this with the flash of the camera well, but I prefer off-camera for consistency. 4. black background.
Essentially the opposite light above configuration, this time trying to light the background as little as possible. Bounce the flash of a wall and keep the issue near the source of light. I recommend using a reflector to fill some if you want a little more than a human eye.

If you do not have an external flash, and you are looking to buy some something that will greatly affect the quality of your pictures is what I recommend. You do not need a high-end flash a SB-900 or the 580EX if you start with a flash camera. Definitely recommended for users Nikon Speedlight SB-600.
