Canon A Series Digital Cameras
What are the main differences between the Canon dSLR models 20D and 350D (Digital Rebel XT)?
I am looking to get either Digital Rebel XT (350D) or 20D, both in the Canon EOS series of dSLR cameras. What are the big differences that make the 20D cost 500 dollars more than the 350D?
I know the 20D shoots up to 5 FPS compared to the 350D’s 3FPS. Plus the 20D’s times for shutter lag is about .04 less than the 350′s .1 of a second. Also the magnesium alloy body versus the plastic body.
Anything else that you know about?
* the better build quality extends to the shutter life: the 20D is rated for 100,000 actuations vs. 50,000 for the 350D (some sources put them both at around 60,000 however)
* faster and more accurate autofocus
* deeper buffer: 26 jpgs on the D20 vs. 14 on the D350
* slightly bigger and brighter viewfinder
* average of 1,000 shots per charge vs. 600 for the D350
* ease of use (extra joystick and dial vs. a 4-way pad)
… with the things you aleready mentioned, thats’s a pretty impressive list.
I’m a Nikon guy myself and earlier this year I had a similar dilemma with the D70 vs. the D200. Until I held both cameras side by side and looked through the viewfinders. After that, the D200 was a no brainer. I suggest you do the same with the 20D and the 350D – the viewfinder and handeling are perhaps the most important features. You can probably get really great deals on the 20D too, now that the 30D is out.

Canon Digital Camera Questions?
1.) What’s the difference between the Powershot A, S, T, Pro and G series?
2.) What’s the difference between the Powershot, Elph and Ixus?
and….
3.) Which would you guys recommend? What do you think is best? I want to buy a digital camera and plan on getting the one with a fast shutter speed, high mega pixel, with macro, and the one with cool features… (like color swap or color accent) and still feels a bit professional…
PowerShot A-series uses AA-batteries and most offer multiple manual modes (Av, Tv, Full-Manual, etc.). S-series have the same capabilities as A-series, but are a lot bulkier and have a different type of battery. The G-series are like the S-series, but offer even more options (hot-shoe adapter, RAW images) and are closer to the professional cameras than the rest of the PowerShots. The G-series eventually replaced the Pro-series.
PowerShot cameras that are made in the US are called PowerShots. That exact same camera model is also made in Europe (and is called IXUS) and Japan (which is known as IXY). The Digital Elph-series is simply another name for the PowerShot SD-series (which only offers VERY limited manual features).
My suggestion is if you know FOR SURE that you’re going to expand (i.e., buying a separate flash unit), go with a G-series camera (preferably a G6 or G7). Otherwise, I’d go with the PowerShot A710 with Image Stabilization. It offers all the qualities you’re looking for, including color swap and color accent.
Hope that helps!
