Canon A470
i have a canon powershot a470 that supports sdhc cards. is there a limit as to how large the memory can be?

basically i wanna buy a memory card that is 8gb. But i wanna know if by using such a large memory card, the camera would start showing problems such as crashing in the middle of action or any other.
will it support the large memory without any problems??

An 8GB SDHC card should work perfectly fine (you’d want a reasonably fast one, Class 4). However, for general day to day use, 8GB is a ridiculously large capacity because it’s large enough to store around 2400 high quality (Superfine/Large) jpeg images. But, maybe if you also intend to shoot lots of videos, then it would be an ok choice.

After a day’s shoot, it’s best to transfer the images to your computer (using a USB 2.0 card reader is faster) then format the card to delete all files so you have free space to shoot some more. This negates the need for an overly large capacity card.
Also, remember to always format a brand new card before you use it the very first time.

Pictures Inaccessible post Immediate switching off the Canon A470

The Canon A470 is an entry-level camera that has been designed specifically keeping in mind the need for compact and simple cameras in this world. The camera has a 3.4x optical zoom and a 2.5 inch LCD display which enables even new users to click good quality pictures with ease. The camera uses SD/MMC/SDHC memory cards. However, even the most perfectly designed cameras can have a rendezvous with trouble from time to time. Some problems may even cause the stored photos card to get deleted or lost. At such times, if one does not have an access to a valid back-up, then you can always turn to a Photo Recovery software to salvage your data.

The most common instance of this is when you immediately switch off your camera after taking pictures. The next time you turn it on, you cannot access any of the pictures saved in your memory card . One encounters a similar kind of problem when trying to upload pictures from the camera’s memory card to the computer after turning the camera off abruptly.

Cause:

The cause behind the inaccessibility of your pictures is that you switched off the camera right after clicking pictures. When we click photos, the camera writes them to the memory card. This process takes time depending on the size of the file being written. During this process if the camera is switched off, the process is interrupted and the card then gets corrupted. Photos thus become inaccessible.

Note: Always switch off your camera after few minutes of clicking the pictures.

Resolution:

To resolve the issue, you will need to format the card. Format the card in the camera itself. Then use a Photo Recovery Software to recover all your lost photos. Digital Photo Recovery can easily be done using a trusted third-party tool, the selection of which should be done carefully and cautiously.

These software scan the storage media and recover all the lost information from within. It makes use of the fact that data is stored on multiple locations in the hard drive. Therefore even when the drive is formatted, specially designed software can recover the data from the hard drive.

Stellar Phoenix Photo Recovery is a Digital Photo Recovery tool which can salvage data from corrupted or formatted partitions. The software supports almost all popular proprietary RAW file formats such as CR2 and CRW (Canon), NEF (Nikon), SR2 (Sony), etc. It has an easy-to-use Graphical User Interface (GUI) which enables even amateurs to recover data with ease.
