Is a Canon SD1000 a good camera to purchase?

I’m looking for an inexpensive point & shoot camera. So far all the reviews I’ve checked recommend the sd1000.
What do you think?
Would a Sony, Kodak or Panasonic be better?
I’m going on a trip through NA and want an easy to use camera that will take great snaps. Picture quality is most important to me.

In my opinion, IXUS and their followers are good cameras, but they are too expensive. Why do I say this? Think about grabbing a Fuji S5700 or S5800 for less money, and you get optical zoom 10X!

Other than that, the S5800 can also operated in full manual mode, bridging the gap between poin & shoot cameras and semi-professional DSLR.

Ok, i knw that the new Canon Powershot SD850 IS jst came out. I REALLY want it, but before i get it, i want to knw if it’s really that good of a camera. Plz tell me the Good and the Bad sides of having this camera…thanks!

I really like it it’s a great camera. This is my 3rd pocket camera . I really like the Image stabilization. Other great features are:
- 8.0 Mega pixels and great optics
- 4x optical zoom 35-140mm (35mm equivalent)
- ISO 1600. It gives you the ability to take picture at night without flash
- It’s small

I would have liked a bigger screen instead of the 2.5”
