What is better a Sony or a Canon digital camera?

I am panning to buy a good digital camera and wonder what is best digital camera sony or a canon. Do you know any good model to suggest?

Sony tends to be the lower end. Are there limits on the lens and feels cheap. Sony been doing since 2006 and Canon SLRs since the early 1900s. Who do you think would be better?
