I am finally getting a digital, but lets face it, the economy is broke, im broke so I cant pay like 1000 because I need to save up, but what’s a pretty good Slr between that price range? and I love shooting with canon or olympus but whatever your show me is fine

Advice on buying Canon 450D Digital SLR camera?

Ok im looking to get a Canon 450D for christmas. I currently have a really good compact camera and im looking to upgrade to the SLR purely because you can tweak with the settings much more. I’ve never tried a 450d but im really impressed with the canon range.
Is there anything I should know before buying, any disadvantages like bad battery life, bad screen, just anything I should know that wouldnt be mentioned in a catalogue?
ps. I am forever using the macro function, is there anything I should get that will enhance the pictures?
