Canon Digital Slr Rebel Xt 350d
Why does it take forever to import photos from my digital SLR?

I have a Canon Rebel XT (350D) Digital SLR and I'm connecting to my Imac 26 "Core 2 Duo. Is 3.06 GHz, 4GB memory, bus speed 1.07GHz, etc etc. I'm connecting via USB cable to the Firewire port on the bottom of my screen. It is literally takes 10 minutes to take pictures of my SLR, shooting at 8MP per photo. I have about 400 photos that I want to get off it, but the camera is turned off before it can begin the process to import most of the time. What I can do to speed up the process whether or to what my camera does not turn off? I do not think the speed of the computer, as is entirely new. Any help would be great! PS I am opening the iPhoto import, because it takes even longer. Thanks!

Two things you can do to improve the speed of transferring images to your computer: 1) Buy more cards media. The 350D uses CF cards. These cards are classified by their speed of transfer. Although you can get faster cards (for more money) a lot right now is an 8 GB card 60 MB / s transfer rate. SanDisk makes one that costs about $ 70. Check it out here: http://bit.ly/bIaOyl. 2) Buy a card reader. Removes CF card from the camera, plug in the reader then plug the reader into a USB or Firewire port and transfer the images that way. It is much faster that most of the transfers from camera to the computer. Sandisk also makes a good reader Firewire for about $ 60 here: http://bit.ly/cixEHB. Ideally do both if you can afford.
