How do I connect the camera to a Mac?

I have a Canon SD600 ELPH'm staying with my friends, she has a cause that I have edit an iMovie project. I always connect to the USB cable, but not on Mac, so if anyone knows the problem …. Should I install the accompanying software, was a creative collage or something, but if I do, please tell me.

Take map memory of the camera and use a card reader – they are cheap. Place your memory card reader to copy files to the computer.
