Should I buy a Nikon SLR camera or a fee (PLEASE HELP)?

I'm stuck between the Nikon and Canon D5000 EOS 5D II. This will be my first camera SLR, so I do not know how to use that well but I just want a good camera for HD videos and high quality photographs. I want to take professional photos in search of myself, so I want to be able to see the screen when I'm taking pictures of myself, and I heard that you can do that with the Nikon camera. Ive seen some bad reviews of the Nikon D5000, but perhaps that's only part of the professionals who need better cameras. What do you think the camera is suitable for me? thanks (:
