Looking for a new Camera – Price Range: 1000-1500$?

Hi.
I saved up some money to buy a new camera. I have been looking at the Canon EOS 5D Mark ll, but it seemed to be a little too expensive for me. I’m looking for a camera that shoots really high quality and shoots HD Videos as well. I’m also looking to get a lens along with the camera.

I really don’t know much about what to get, so I hope you can help me.

Thanks.

Hey,

Canon EOS 7D body costs 1500$. High Quality and HD videos (better than 5D Mark II). You can get it with the kit 28-135 or buy a lens after the body.

Given the amazing qualities that the Canon EOS 5D Mark II has, offering a full 21.1 mega pixel and an HD movie capability; one has to ask the query, if this is the point at which photographers and videographers will be doing the same job. Considering it, having only 1 apparatus for 2 purposes should be the ‘it’ gadget. Considering that you don’t have to hold heavy heaps of cameras, stands and lenses, having just one small camera should do the job. But is it really up to it? Are we actually into it?

Traditionally, a man with a small camera is the paparazzo, the other one with the gigantic camera is the video guy. Getting them both into having only 1 piece of gear may not satisfy both their needs considering their different fields of experience; it might be difficult for both of them to adjust. Still photographers and videographers have a nervous truce. There are a lot amateurs as well as working pros that shoot both, of course. among creative and fine art photographers video is a world apart. Film makers and videographers are to a greater extent capable in still photography, since it forms part of their craft, but usually target their primary passion – the moving image and storytelling.

There is a fascinating convergence taking place though that is being driven by the equipment makers. Increasingly video capture is being found in everything from mobile phones and PDAs to dig cams. Also, the price of near-broadcast quality video gear dropped to the point that cameras and editing systems that were the vision of creative film makers simply a short while back are now in reach of almost everybody.

Taking an effective picture means telling a story in a single image. Through choice of subject, composition, focus, cropping and so on, the photographer selects those things that she wants to convey the meaning intended, or not. This is a demanding art as well as craft. With film or video, motion pictures as they once were universally called, there is the added element of multiple perspectives achieved thru editing, as well as sound. A mood can be created. A complicated story can be told. The viewer’s perceptions and feelings can be manipulated to achieve the creator’s informational or emotional ends. But this is unusual, at least to the quality standard that we have set. Most comparable productions require 2, or 3, or more folks with specialised gifts to accomplish a similar thing.

However, even those among us with lesser experience and talents can still find pleasure in manufacturing short videos and still photographs that may be creatively satisfying, and also even achieve wider recognition. The point is that for some folks video production could be a very gratifying accessory to still photography, if not an honest to goodness alternative. And, with the new generation of high definition kit that has just become available this year at down to earth prices, the visual quality of what can be produced is little short of fantastic.

So, will this be the medium of the future? What will this be called? What will you call the person that is both photographer and a videographer? There is just so much difference that both mediums are disagreeing with one another which one is best. Merging both will be difficult as it is confusing in a way that in an artist’s standpoint, a picture says more than 1,000 words silently than a video that says everything in motion and in words.

If I am going to have my own opinion, only using one piece of equipment for photography and videography should be best kept for the enthusiasts and beginners alike. Pros are keener on conventions ; they should be left with what they are trained to do. A paparazzo should stick to his SLR, and a videographer stick with his video camera. In saying this though, the professional videographer is drawn to the Canon 5D SLR purely for its capability to produce superb video photographs, typically only seen in 100k plus video cameras. The sole downside is, the SLR is essentially built for taking photos and not too much thought is given to the ergonomics and functionality for videos. ( perhaps with its popularity among film makers this can soon change ). With the comparisons of differences and similarities, it is concluded that in this time, it still isn’t acceptable for both parties to combine as an one job description. Perhaps a couple more years maybe.

Wedding videos that have been properly done will be something that you will cherish throughout your marriage. Poorly created ones will only remind you every time you watch it that you should have hired a professional to do the job. Finding a real professional that uses state of the art equipment to capture your perfect day can be quite daunting. canon eos 5d mark II auto focus?

So I really want to buy the new canon eos that has 1080p HD video!! But my biggest concern is that it would just be a hassle to keep the subject in focus while filming if they’re moving around. Does anyone know if it has auto focus while filming so your not constantly focusing while filming?

If it works like the Nikon D90, if you select continuous focus on the camera body, the lens will continue to auto-focus as the subject moves. I don’t think you can set the auto-focus to focus based upon the predominant colour of the subject, however
