Is there a better camera out there than Canon EOS 5D Mark II 21.1MP ?

I really want to use it for filming, I like its unique style . Is there anything similar or better for around the same price ?

If your true goal is to produce high quality video, then you are wasting your time with a still camera that just happens to have a video feature. Even when shooting with the fine 5D, Mark II, you will only be using 2 mp of the total 21 mp on the sensor. You can do the math and see that. The Canon 1D, Mark IV will provide you with larger pixels, but costs $5,000.

What a video camera does is collect the video information on three separate CCD’s (RGB) and combine them into the video file, so you get three times the information in your video file (3 * 2 MP = 9 MP of data)

Canon, JVC, Panasonic and Sony make cameras with 3-CCD configurations that also shoot in the HD mode

I suggest you redo your research and pick a different camera

Note, thus far only a few camera system makers have gone down the road of including video with their fine still cameras. It may well be, when all dust settles, this feature may fade away, at least in the higher end version of DSLR’s

What is difference between a canon eos 300d and 5d apart from price?

I want to shoot portraits professionally – could get a new camera but don’t want to spend cash on something that does lots more than I really need.
When I say ‘professionally’ I mean I’ll be selling portraits- I know there is much much more to making money out of photography that owning the best camera and having technical knowledge.
Fishmeis …both cars would still get you to work on time if that’s all you wanted a car for just one looks lots better, costs much more etc etc. I’ve worked in a studio before but used medium format and admit to knowing little about digital cameras. I’m not going to defend my ability to sell portraits here as I don’t need to just seeking advice from knoledgable people.

The 5D being full frame offers far better image quality with less noise and far greater dynamic range. Lenses remain at their true focal length as stated on the lens barrel.. You also have the benefit of a much larger and brighter view finder. Full frame isn’t essential over the APS sized sensors but it’s still a nice addition to any pro photographers kit. If giving the best image quality to clients is important to you then do consider the 5D as a worthwhile piece of kit.
