Canon Ixus Memory Card Error
Memory Card Error with Canon Ixus 400?
I’ve got a Canon Ixus 400 digital camera and every time I put in the memory card and switch on the camera it says “Memory Card Error”.
This has been working fine for years with three different memory cards (compact flash), and the problem is with all three memory cards. All cards work fine with the card reader attached to the computer.
I have tried formatting the card on the computer, but to no avail.
It sounds like an internal camera problem, but I would like to try everything before getting it looked at professionally.
Thanks for any suggestions.
I am wondering if you have actually tried formatting the card in the camera. You should ALWAYS let the camera format the memory card…and not the computer.
If you have already done this, then I can’t think of why you would have a problem with all three cards, which sounds a little odd. I suppose it could then be a problem with the camera.
But, if it IS a problem with the camera, then I would suggest you just buy a new one (because the Ixus 400 is now almost 4 years old). That’s a good life in digital camera terms, but it’s also quite old.
It probably wouldn’t be worth getting it fixed…a newer camera would be a better and cheaper option, because even just getting it looked at could cost quite a bit and repairs could easily cost almost as much as a newer and updated model.
A new camera will give you better quality photos, faster camera performance, better features and much better quality movies.
Stick with Canon of course, they have some great models out at the moment.
Good Luck…
Canon Ixus Memory Card Error

With the use of an additional memory card you can store more pictures and videos with your digital camera or digital camcorder. Most cameras and camcorders come with inbuilt storage memory that is small in size and truly do not fulfill any ones storage needs. Many people often ask what is the perfect size memory unit to purchase for there digital camera as there are so many storage sizes available. In this article will provide you with some basic tips on finding the right size memory for your digital camera.
Find out what memory sticks are compatible with your digital camera.
Before going off and purchasing any old memory card you will need to determine what type of memory card your camera is compatible with. SD and memory stick memory cards are most commonly used on most brands of camera while xd iterations are usually exclusive to Fuji and Olympus branded cameras. If you have a digital camera or camcorder branded by Fuji or Olympus you will find your storage capacities somewhat limited as the biggest card available at the Monet is only capable of storing 2gb worth of data while memory stick and SD cards can hold a lot more.
Finding the right size for your needs.
The average size of a memory size is widely known to be 1gb. This size although not tremendously large, still allows you to store a descent amount of photos and short videos. Other factors have to be taking into consideration when choosing the right sized memory. These include:
- Resolution of photo or video
- Amount of photos and video stored
- Quality of photo or video taken
These 3 factors are important in determining whats right for you. I personally recommend in finding a balance such as a 2gb-4gb card as it offers a good amount of storage while keeping transfer speeds fast. If going for a memory card larger than 8gb be sure your device is compatible. Some models of camera need a simple software update to recognise larger sizes of memory card.
Brand of memory sticks
The most reliable and affordable brand of memory on the market are those by Sandisk. Although this is not always the case, I personally find there products reliable as well as affordable compared to other name brands. As with most leading manufacturers there products come with an included warranty which is also a plus point in my view. Beware of imitation copies of memory card on the market, these cards are unreliable as well as illegal and i advice to stay clear from them.

Camera MMC error (canon ixus 75).?
My MMC won’t detected in my computer, when i plugged it in, it said that my mmc hasn’t been formated, and asked me to format it. And when i plug it into the usb cable, it also won’t detected. and when i plugged it back to my camera, i even couldn’t view my picture, it said “memory card error”. but when i try with another mmc, the camera works normal.
what’s important is my data in my old mmc, how to save it?
please help
The MMC that’s giving you a card error is likely trashed, but recovering the data off it might be possible. You can try running recovery software – try one of these:
Photo Rescue (commercial software)
http://www.datarescue.com/photorescue/
PC Inspector (freeware)
http://www.pcinspector.de/Sites/file_recovery/info.htm?language=1
After installing one or the other, plug your MMC into a card reader and run the software – if you’re lucky, the card isn’t completely wrecked, and the software will be able to find some, if not most or all of the pictures on it.
Once you run the program and get your pictures back (hopefully), toss that card in the trash, as it’s worthless now.
