Verbatim Memory Card Locked Canon IXUS 55 digital camera?

Hello, I bought a 4 GB card memory for my digital camera, camera Canon IXUS 55, and when inserted, gives an error saying the memory card is locked. I turned the switch on the side of the card to close and open then and still doesn `t work. Any ideas please? Thank you.
