Apple Mac user needs to convert. AVI a. MPEG?

I have a few digital cameras and two of them and recording movies. AVI …. Nikon Coolpix Canon IXUS 70 S200 and I have the free converter called MPEG Streamclip. This seems to work fine with the file and converts Nikon.AVI well. But I cannot even import Canon.AVI file in the program not to mention the conversion. Why is this? and there is another converter software available on the Apple Mac OS X you can use? Thank you very much, Nat

AVI is not a video format is a container file format – just because two files have the extension. avi does not mean that its contents are neither remotely similar. The archives contain Nikon Quicktime, so it's no surprise that well on a Mac! Canon files contain MJPEG video. You will need to obtain a MJPEG codec, but I know nothing about Mac, so I can not suggest anything. Good luck!

How can I download the photos to a Mac from Canon IXUS V3 digital camera?

I was kindly given the camera, but no instructions – I used a Fuji Finepix before the Mac, but he lost -. That's what I did: power unit camera to capture photos – camera to the Mac via USB cable – open iPhoto on the Mac – click on "Import" is to say, "No camera detected"? http://www.oceanphotography.net/images/ixuscameraback.jpg http://www.canon.co.uk/For_Home/Product_Finder/Cameras/Digital_Camera/IXUS/ Digital_IXUS_v3/index.asp. Thank you to you all! trick dog went around and everyone has helped someone else:)

The camera must not be "shooting mode." Must be "Photo-screen" (as if viewing images from the camera.) Have you checked the Canon site in your country to download the manual?
