Which DSLR camera is better for a first DSLR?
im looking for a camera costing around £300- £350 (or less) i’ve been looking at the Canon EOS 1000D, (£309 for the body) or the Nikon D3000 (£365 for the body)
my college have suggested Canon as they have lenses to fit.
but i really like nikon, and my current simple camera is nikon and i love it, but mainly i will buy which ever is the actuall better camera.
so if anyone could help me that would be great,. also if you know anywhere cheap / or good value to buy it from i would also appreciate it.
(in the uk by the way) (:
I see the problem more this way:
Do you want AEB (exposure bracketing) or spot metering. Canon has AEB, Nikon doesn’t. Nikon has spot metering, Canon doesn’t.
Now bracketing is ace if you want to do HDR, but otherwise it’s not really that useful. Spot metering is something that you may find more useful when you want to specifically get the exposure of one thing right.
Next, Canon have traditionally used CMOS sensors, and this is true with the 1000D, while the Nikon uses a CCD sensor…if you ask is there a difference between these two differing technologies, well there is a very small, but noticeable difference. The low light performance is probably MARGINALLY better on the 1000D, but really does that matter? Probably not.
Finally having access to Canon lenses is actually a MASSIVE bonus, the lens really can transform a shot (ditto with lighting). The kit lenses that come with both of these cameras don’t really allow much flexibility, and are rather unforgiving at times. So a good lens really really makes life easier.

Best place to buy cheap digital slr accessories?
I am staying in the manila area this xmas, I have 2 houses there.
Anyway, where is the best place to buy cheap digital slr accessories? Like lenses, batteries, etc for canon?
I spent £500 on my DSLR here in the UK which is around 50,000 pesos, I can spend around 10,000+ pesos on accessories.
Actually at today’s exchange rate it’s more of around 46,000 pesos.
If you’re good at bargaining I’d recommend the electronics stall and boutiques in the Virra Mall in Greenhills. But do this only if you can speak Tagalog fluently or have a companion who can. If you don’t they’ll start you off with an artificially high starting price. Also, you take the chance that the merchandise is a cheap Chinese knockoff.
Otherwise, I’d direct you to the 4th and 5th floors of Megamall in Madaluyong City or Park Square 1 & 2 in the Glorietta Shopping Complex in Makati City.
And keep in mind that the selection here might not be what it is in the UK. Perhaps you should make a stop in Hong Kong if that’s not a problem.
