Canon Lens 01 error.. help?!?
My Canon 17-85mm lens has come up with 01 error code twice now, both when i’ve been out and about (in cold weather, does that make any difference?). Both times the lens has started working again after a while, but is this normal?
I’m wondering why this is happening, and how i can prevent this from happening in the furture?
I am only new to SLR cameras, and have only changed lenses twice, but both times, although not straight away, this error code has come up. My Canon 100-300mm is working fine, which makes me think it’s less to do with how i’m changing lenses.
If anyone has any ideas, please help!?
The two things that come to mind for a 01 error:
1) Carefully cleans the lens contacts. I use a pink pencil eraser and a small makeup brush
2) When ever I go to swap lenses, I turn the camera off then change the lens. IMO, this lets the camera synch with the lens…afterall, an 01 error is a communication issue. In the “old” days of manual lenses, this wasn’t necessary, but nowadays cameras/lenses/ [certain] hotshoe flashes talk to one another.
