Canon Lenses Explained
Need help with digital camera lenses!?

I'm buying a Canon Rebel XTi body, but I need help choosing a target. I really I do not understand all the differences! need a lens to photograph landscapes, nature and portraits to action shots one. I'm taking a photography class in the spring, but now I'm buying my camera. Can you explain the different types of lenses, how and why are they used? Nothing super expensive, I'm on a budget to stay under $ 1500. Any help / advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Here is a great article on different lenses http://www.naturephotographers.net/articles1202/dp1202-1.html Mainly, a shorter focal length is more than one scene, has less zoom, and can cause distortion. A focal length and shows less, but has zoom higher and lower distortion. For action photography, you will need a lens with a focal high. But that's not the only important thing. Must be fast (ie, have an opening wide) or else there will be enough light and the image will be blurred. Very fast with very long lenses focal lengths can be expensive, so you have a compromise between the zoom and light. A moderate zoom lens (about 105 mm) is considered the classic portrait goal. A low normal coordination length will be good for the landscape and nature, but if you start getting shorter of the distortion can be very large. The distortion of an absolute majority will with a fisheye lens. If you still have doubts this is another great article http://www.photographytips.com/page.cfm/468
