How I can take pictures of lightning with only 18-55 lens?

My camera is the Canon EOS Rebel XSI I have a 18-55 and 70-300 y. There is supposed to be a good size approaching storm tonight, so I'm trying to figure out how to take pitcures beam with what I have. I have no remote control or filters any Just those two lenses and tripod.

Zoom out rather large. Set your camera to manual. Set the shutter speed to B (bulb), and openness to best f / 8. Get your whole tripod, focus on the farthest thing you can, then switch to manual focus it will not change. Once the darkness and the storm will pull the trigger and keep it until you've gotten a couple of strikes. If the image is too dark, open your aperture a bit. If it is overexposed, it narrows a bit. That Have fun!

Top 20 Questions to consider when buying a digital camera

My top 20 key issues to consider when buying a digital camera.

1. How many "megapixels" / resolution?

Once and for all, the at least for me, you must obtain the highest resolution your money can buy at the time of purchase. Period.

2. Who made the lens?

Most cameras give you an idea of where the goal was simply looking at the front of the lens. Whether the lens his camera is from a reputable company like Leica, Zeiss, Canon, etc .. the quality of the lens is one of the most important you should consider especially if you use commercial, technical or scientific.

3. Will I need Interchangeable lenses? How many are available for my device Photo in mind?

Have the option of interchangeable lenses gives you the freedom to experiment with different focal lengths. Although some P & S (Point & Shoot) DSLR cameras can compete with a generous zoom range for a system of lenses are not interchangeable.

Also note the number of glasses available for use with a camera specifically for reasons of flexibility. Can cover almost all "Zoom" with interchangeable lenses from wide modest zoom lens systems are not interchangeable or P & S cameras.

4. Have you a zoom capability? What is the scope?

Almost all the applications I listed above are a sort of zoom (telephoto) or outside (wide), especially if they have no space to move around the object being photographed.

For images landscape, wide angle views are very common and sexy at the same time to zoom in on details and complete rest is the wide-angle shots.

For weddings and events, you need a zoom, and there will be times that are limited by space photography and you have a moment difficult around. It's a good thing for know you can do all sorts of context without even moving from his position.

A zoom of goodwill to give you efficiency and versatility of photography, so my suggestion is the largest number, you can get (usually 7X to 10X for a point and shoot).

Note also the speed of zoom in or out, what a factor if you shoot events like weddings. You seize the decisive moment "Speed in a mediocre photo.

5. Is the provision for capturing raw images?

Many photographers you need this function digital camera, if you want large prints of his photographs. If true, the main reason why we want is for the benefit will … Pure total control of your images … exposure, color, metadata, HDR and more.

6. Can I attach an external flash?

An external flash capability gives you the power and creative freedom in light of their songs as you want.

You can connect your digital camera for all types of lighting, which gives you more options and versatility. This comes in the form of a shoe or a PC-Sync socket.

If your camera has this feature, there is still hope, because the accessory called slaves sold by Flash other companies in different flavors which also makes the same job more or less.

7. Do you have a tripod?

Some photos most beautiful landscapes I've seen, without doubt, are made with a tripod, so it is a must if you plan to do this kind of photography.

The provision "is the light" at a wedding, still life and product photography, studio art and plans … we all need a tripod for its successful implementation … then guess what happens if you do not have a tripod? … You can not effectively use a tripod!

8. Have you autofocus and manual?

It is not immediately obvious why you need this especially if you are new to photography. But If you're like me … A total control freak when it comes to cameras … and you want to express your creativity is really a must have.

9. Filters can be connected to it? and what size filter?

express their creativity with special effects is one the many reasons it is fun and interesting picture, and experiment with filters is an exercise in creation must face his image, especially if you are a beginner.

Remember to always ask if the camera you are looking for particular filters can handle and ask the size of the filter. (To record the purchase of filters on the right with the wrong size filter) Note that most digital SLR should be able to manage filters, most lenses that come with a diameter of filter built into the lens.

Most P & S (point and shoot) digital cameras are generally not equipped with a filter thread and may need special accessories achieve this objective and must be checked for safety.

Again, there are many third-party accessories that you could adapt to buy filters for your P & S digital cameras do not have this provision. I will discuss all about it in a future post so watch for him. (O Subscribe to my ad (feed via email) to know when they are affected.

10. "I can update the firmware?

Beauty some manufacturers of digital cameras is that they continually improve their digital cameras, even after sold it to you … This comes as a firmware update.

Usually this means an improvement on one or more of the characteristics a camera. Make sure the camera you intend to buy has an easy way to update your firmware. This comes in the form of a simple transfer to the manufacturer website (find it and now favorite) or a free CD-ROM.

Another warning – be sure to consider if a reduction is possible or available in your digital camera … Why There is a need for renewal, you ask? … Because that you can reinstall the previous firmware … except that the result of a firmware update.

Sometimes it is a feature which was abolished by the update failed to read about and decided you want to keep that role instead of a bunch of updates minor new firmware. (Yes, I have personally experienced.)

11. Is there any benefits or additional software to come with him?

Some people ignore the fact that you can save a lot of money just to do simple arithmetic. Did you know that you could Get your digital camera for less if the price of study and offers on the market?

If you buy a digital camera and is comes with software that can really use … Photoshop, elements, or any other image editing software other others for the case, then you've saved a little money that would otherwise occur. Some dealers will throw a lot of extras … If you simply ask.

Always try to ask those things you end up buying all Anyway if it is not – such as camera bags, extra lenses, extra batteries, memory cards, tripod, lens cleaners, etc. … Believe me, he just bought these things if they do not ask no treatment. "What you got to lose?" Just ask. Would you believe I did one of my purchase cost of the camera until 30%? Ask away.

12. Are there local support in your region?

Find the answer to it will give a great advantage over the long term. Did not you sleep better at night because he believes that the extra security – if there is something wrong with your device Digital camera, you can repair in a moments notice?

Not knowing when the device is repaired (or if he even repair distance) is one of the worst feelings a photographer can have especially if you're in the middle of a shoot or project.

13. What kind of guarantee do you have? Countrywide World /?

If you travel a lot its good to know that in a country or, even better – a guarantee from around the world can not get your camera sets where you are. Keep the warranty card and paste it into your camera bag.

14. Do you have the opportunity to take video and audio?

I know, most digital SLRs have this feature. However, some digital SLRs with interchangeable lenses do not have it. This is a very useful feature if you are in a project or a photo shoot and wants to save a document or procedure, a moment or an idea that would have trouble remembering or writing. It's always a good idea to make a backup copy of P & S camera has this functionality.

Things you can do with audio and video clips in a photo opportunity only limited by your imagination … interviews literature, jokes, training procedures, bloopers, etc.

15. Do you have a manual white balance?

White balance is one digital cameras the most interesting. It's fun and exciting work. Having this option makes the pleasure of photography-o-meter up. In future posts, I will talk about white balance in detail, so be sure to follow.

16. How sensitive infrared?

If you plan to take infrared images or enter the exciting world of art photography in Infrared, you want to know if your digital camera can.

TIP: There is a simple way to test the sensitivity of your digital camera is an infrared device, using the – A TV control remotely. For P & S, which may point the remote at the lens and measuring the brightness of the LED is absent. This should give you an idea the sensitivity of your digital camera to infrared. For DSLR will take pictures of the LED and experiment a little or you can search or just the model of special camera that Google has in mind for others' experiences and reflections on the issue.

17. What is the height of the ISO? Is it controlled manually?

ISO is a term that refers to the sensitivity of the film light. In the digital camera world, refers to the sensitivity of the electronic sensor in the camera with respect ISO used for digital film.

The higher the ISO sensitivity of your camera faster or better that can save a number specific light.

High ISO is useful to take better pictures in low light … like the inside of a church or night. The higher the ISO value, more information can be captured in a dark scene.

A caution – note the amount of noise has a special camera to a higher ISO. Some people, other not. Again, do not be afraid to ask or do research on the acoustic characteristics of your camera model in mind for see if this is the right choice for you. "

18. How high or low, you can set the Shutterspeed? What are the parameters for a minimum opening and maximum?

Shutterspeed and aperture settings are the basic mechanisms that lead to the camera and controls amount of light impress the film or sensor.

Use action plans Shutterspeed high and avoid camera shake, and you use Shutterspeed low for motion effects and the bulb or long exposure. You can find these numbers on the sites I provided in Part 1. You can see the technical specifications for a specific device.

A bulb or "T" function is a good feature to have because you can take exposures for periods of time almost too long. Another feature to have if your camera has a remote control is for powering a light bulb or "T" mode. This gives you the opportunity to take pictures without the camera and add to traffic the camera. "

With the theme of windows, a small (small aperture opening) allows you to have a greater depth of field their vaccines are net of nearly far in comparison with a large aperture (open aperture), where his pictures have a depth of field and are "so selective "Centered.

19. Do you have some form of image stabilization?

The new cameras coming out now often have this feature. In short, an image stabilizer is a form of a mechanism built into the lens of the camera (depending on the manufacturer and their application) which basically prevents you blur when shooting in low light or using a telephoto or telephoto lens. Having this function can the difference between a blurry picture (aka no picture!) a usable.

20. How far can you focus? Macro skills?

The closest is the camera can focus … more the image of an object that can take in relation to the size of the image of the final photo … and larger image of the object … More information you can get. If you want to take pictures of small objects like flowers and small details, is a must-have.

That's it. Phew.

Did you really go to all these questions? … Of course not, but even if you do study and meditate in the midst of them … and take time … I promise you one thing will surely happen …

You …

much smarter!

that when you started to ask these questions … Ergo you are in a better position to decide which digital camera to buy … Because you are now armed with another tool may have powerful

the power of information!

In any case, I hope you find the best value in these issues because many of my friends have and be able to get the camera of your dreams.

Canon EOS Rebel additional XS/1000D? Filter / Lens etc. only people with experience please?

Im going buy a Canon EOS Rebel XS Share with my father. It comes with a lens kit 18-55mm. It will use, while in Ireland, photographs of landscapes (Probably water) and candid portraits. I will use in the summer camp for horses and children (especially in sunlight, but a beautiful morning campfire and photos). It is likely also a bit of macro. Wondered what kind of extras we do to meet our needs? Is the lens kit do, but what are the lenses and filters do you recommend (including sizes and brands, please)? PS We have a tripod and camera bag. I think to buy an extra battery and memory card Kijiji as a high GB. Thank you and good day
