Canon Rebel XSi or Nikon D90?

I am a beginner in digital SLR and go from my Kodak P850 point and shoot my first SLR. I have money saved, enough to remove the Nikon D90 kit, but what I wonder is whether or not I make the right decision. I originally sold on the XSi until Nikon came out with the D90. Am photographing my family, hiking, etc, but I think I use my current digital camera to take some short videos of my kidlette. Do you think it is worth spending the extra money on the D90? I'm very into photography and want to expand my knowledge and I would like to have something that I would be able to use lenses with other agencies, more slr complex in the future. Anyone can help would be great!

5 Things You Did not Know About Nikon

  1. Nikon is not the name of the company until 1988.

Before this, the company is officially called Nippon Kogaku KK – many people believe that the name was changed before, but it was not until the late 80s. April 1, 1988, to be precise, Nikon Corporation has been officially (re) birth.

Of course, had been using a Nikon for many years (the story suggests the name Nikon invented in the mid-1940s), so why not finally decided change? Well, this little story directly from the Nikon website can give a little light.

The President met Shigeto and Fukuoka former French President Jacques Chirac. On behalf of Nippon Kogaku Kogyo, Chirac simply bowed his head in bewilderment. When Mr. Fukuoka said the word "Nikon" However, the mayor of Paris immediately understood.

Fukuoka President said: "From now on, do not want us to be limited Kogaku by name ("lens"). We will work towards further progress seniors. "

  2. Nikon does are not their first aircraft in 1948.

After thirty-one years the company was founded by the merger of three separate optical manufacturers In 1917, Nikon introduced its first camera, the Nikon I. Before that, the lens is Nikon Nikkor branded with binoculars and microscopes.

Demand for the camera in Japan was enormous, but not without problems. A wave for the manufacture of the left somewhat dubiously camera film advance fail often work, which has led to numerous complaints from customers and Nikon forced into financial difficulties. However, he recovered with the M 1949 1950, Nikon S, S2, SP, and finally, the classic Nikon F, the quality and reliability improvement of each model.

  3. Nikon origin now all rival Canon lenses.

first Canon cameras were cheap Japanese Leica clones, and in 1934, announced a 35mm rangefinder called Kwanon. The Kwanon was a prototype was never put into production – which was followed by his unit Commercial First, the Hansa Canon in 1936. Canon has been a problem, though – I had no experience making lenses, such as Nippon Kogaku Kogyo contract as a designer and manfufacturer proven optical, and Nikkor is used. The Canon Hansa actually shipped with a standard 50mm f/3.5 Nikkor.

In fact, much of the first Canon camera was made by Nikon – Nippon Kogaku was responsible for the lens, the lens mount, the viewfinder and the range finder mechanism. Canon pioneered the development of lenses in 1937, but were not available until after the War world, and Serena set up their fast 50mm f / 2 until 1947.

  4. When was launched in 1959, the Nikon F costs on average three months' salary.

We think we have trouble with the price of current digital SLRs, but the first Nikon camera cost ¥ 67,000 – Three times the salary of an employee at the time the Japanese government. Still managed to sell one million of them in the next 15!

It was the camera that we introduced F-mount – the mound itself (though with additional features, including the Electronic Age) which is still in use today. This installation was revolutionary in its time, a large diameter compared to its peers is rangefinder, this allowing F Nikkor be much more resistant to mechanical vignetting.

  5. Nikon Digital SLR First, D1 has been developed from scratch as only two years.

We can assume that the new digital camera is a little over 10 years is certainly not the case. Although the first Coolpix (the Coolpix 100) was in 1997, Nikon D1 Classic was introduced in 1999.

To produce a wine with Nikon digital SLR president in 1997, and engineers have responded by saying it would take four years, three at least. They had two.

The result is a 2.7mp digital SLR features overcome many cameras today, including at input (and is also contemporary digital cameras, the Coolpix 100 was 3MP), but at the same time, it was revolutionary. The D1 domain market moved quickly Kodak digital SLR, and sales have surpassed the 100,000 bodies per year, even in the United States is the selling price $ 5,500. With the D1, the market share of Canon Nikon eclipse. Strangely, the camera uses the NTSC color space, not sRGB or Adobe RGB we use today.

What lenses for Nikon DSLR should I buy? Talk upscale 2.8?

I'm about to buy the D80 (I felt very well in the store) after being informed answers to spend money on lenses than the body. A friend is a user of Canon and recommended the following range – which would be the equivalent of Nikon lenses or recommended you suggest? Is EFS 10-22mm 24-70mm f/2.8L el, and f/2.8L IS 70-200. My main need is a good portrait lens, but I travel a lot, so we need more of that. I saw some comments on the 18-200 VR as well … I am a little confused so if anyone has a sounding board for compensation in this regard. I love Yahoo Answers Search Thanks!

Equivalent Nikon 1224 (920 $), or the 17-55 f/2.8 ($ 1,200) or the 28-70 f/2.8 ($ 1400), 70-200 mm f / 2, 8 l '($ 1,600 ). For the standard zoom and I prefer from 1917 to 1955. I find this series much more useful for walking. Because, after the bond length 1.5 multiplier, 28-70 does not provide coverage much larger: 28 mm x 1.5 = 42mm extender. Of course, Canon also unveiled a 17-55 mm f/2.8 ($ 1,050), but not a lens L – does not build quality. With the Nikon 17-55 (built like a tank), I personally find it difficult to justify spending $ 900 in 1912-1924 and the gap between 55mm and 70mm, not lost. If portrait photography is important to you, consider replacing the zoom lens 12/24 with a Nikon 85mm f / 1.4. And finally, the 18-200 is a goal to travel. He has a list price of $ 750, but you'll have the chance to find it for $ 900 because of the rarity. For the convenience of this all-in-one it gives the image quality, build quality, and (very useful) f/2.8 however. It would be for me, but they sell like hotcakes. Whatever your decision, best wishes with your computer!
