First steps in the stock photography: Choosing your team

Say you have committed to join the world of photography actions, you have an excuse, and valid, go out and buy photography gear. What I will share with you here is not necessarily the ideal solution for what they do, but what works for me. I can give you some guidelines and advice, but in any case take into account their own situation, what and how you will plan, What are your budget constraints and a number of other personal considerations.

Let's start with cameras. I a number of professional candidates to ask what to buy cameras and … most often end up putting money before quality. This is error. If you want to shoot professionally, and compete with all others who do, you can buy a camera that meets professional image quality requirements of large agencies. To do so is located at a significant disadvantage.

You can not go wrong with high-end cameras from Canon and Nikon. Models and specifications are constantly changing and improving, but if you go with one of its level models professional and have spent their money wisely. I, at the time of this writing, I'm shooting with a Canon 1Ds MKII, a Canon 1Ds MKIII, and a Canon 5D MKII. If I were starting today I would buy the Canon 5D MKII.

To determine which camera is best for you, you should go into a store camera and hold the top models, see how they feel and get an idea of what would be most comfortable for you. If sports likely will be pulling another model if you shoot the still life. If you shoot in low light, you may want another model if you throw very light. That is why you should do your research. Indeed, the new Canon and Nikon have a remarkably low yield of light representing a change radical in the image.

His glasses are his next election. I could probably do all my pictures with the Canon 24-105 L lens of series. That said, I also find useful, more or less in this series, the Canon 100-400 L series zoom, zoom, 16-35, 70-200 f2.8 and a 135mm f2. Buy Canon or Nikon lenses, most lenses in the third person, in my experience, give you a little more clarity and more strength. If you're on a budget, start with a goal in the 24-105 range, and use it until you find constantly in need of something more.

It is my firm belief that if you are competing seriously in the world of stock photography, need some form of lighting equipment. Although there is much light, for example at 4:00 PM on a sunny day at the beach, you can create pictures with greater impact and will sell better if you add additional lighting.

It can be as simple as a reflector, or it may be flashing. I recently met Back Cycling along the waves on the beach, pulled away in a model running towards me, while a new wizard Riding next to me holding a pack in one hand and a strobe light in others. The highlight was added by the flash gives a bit more of something that puts the picture for the addition to the many images of other competitors. My experience has always been used properly, additional light is always a better picture of what you can get without. Even when shooting Padueng tribal women in remote areas Myanmar (the ones with rings around the neck) with a camera flash to add a little pop in the dark interior of their huts made a huge difference.

Each value in responding to needs at least one reflector, and a folding 32-inch white reflector on one side and gold on the workhorse of others is a versatile device that is large enough to manage the size of the trunk of a subject and small enough to fit in your bag backpacks. Get one of them. Personally, that one size has been invaluable to me and I always have one available when I'm shooting.

Regarding the flash will, over the years, I used Elinchrom, Balcar, Profoto and Speedotron. All have worked well for me. Right now I'm Profoto 7BS. Each package can handle two heads with a total of 1200 watt seconds and are equipped with removable batteries that can handle 200 flashes at full power.

I am totally satisfied with these units. I brought with me to Buenos Aires, Bangkok, Mexico and India. Again However, do your own research. Check forums, read reviews, better still, some rental units and test them. You must take into account the flexibility units, the weight and size, power output, or battery or not, and all the different characteristics of different units of supply.

If you do end up with the study (and location) recommend power trip packet radio or "slaves". I use Pocket Wizards, but there are a number of brands and my lack of experience with other brands should not prevent others to verify. A Once the wireless technology, you can not go back.

While most trust my "studio" PSU for my shoots produced in certain situations, the camera fires play an important role for me. On my recent trip to India to take pictures that I wanted Travel light, and had the Canon 580 EX unit supplemented by a Quantum Turbo SC battery.

At one point they even had two photographers to share the amount, at the same time (twice). It was a great decision for the type and style of photography trip planned.

In Occasionally, I used the hot lights too. I have a couple of Lowel Tota lights for the rare cases where I need continuous light. They are very mobile and a 1000 watt bulb to get a good amount of light (and very hot too). Do not introduce a source of 220 volts when, after flashes become one with flash, as I discovered in a moment of distraction during filming in Argentina.

As is, however, could be continuous fluorescent lighting. The term Google and find plenty of information about it. The light is beautiful, but in the past when I tried, I found a bit limiting production. Now, however, with speeds of ISO increased potential for further advances the latest cameras Canon and Nikon, and possible with the lighting units themselves, they can be a good option for you. Try them. My advice is to try and discover what works best for your style of shooting and the look you want.

I firmly believe in having the right tool for the job. If not or can not own, rent. But try to skimp when you have a successful meeting in the balance is a false economy.

Get the basics, then start shooting and learning. With the instant feedback of digital cameras can make adjustments after each exposure, as well. What are you waiting for? Go shoot!
