Canon vs Nikon DSLR?

Photographers, if you had to choose between the Canon 30D and Nikon D80, which would you choose and why? I'm not too concerned with lenses at this time, I already know which way to go there, only concerned with a good body. I'm a novice photographer to change my platform to digital technology and I'm really torn between the two, with the greatest difference between them is price. As a newcomer to photography, I must be a good buy body, regardless of price, or is it really better than the other?
