Canon Digital Rebel XT lenses?

I recently bought a Canon Digital Rebel XT, EOS 350 D camera. I am a beginner in this, so they need much guidance. We are going to Paris, France in a couple of weeks, so I have to know what the best lenses for shooting photos would Eiffel Tower (from near and far) and the Catacombs, etc – wide angle and telephoto. Also, I want them to be zoom lenses. The kit lens that comes with the camera simply not close enough for me. On the other hand, you know where I can get? Lenses for Canon 20D?

I have a Canon 20D and am looking to buy a zoom and / or a wide angle lens. I am a student and have so not much money to spend, I'm looking for the essentials. I'm finally willing to pursue photography as a profession and So I'm after quality lenses.

When you replace my Canon 17-40 mm f 4 L with the release of 16-35 mm, I gave my friend (who has Digital Rebel XT).
