Do these lenses mounted on a Nikon D40 or D40x?

I read about the Nikon D40 (x) with the ability to assume the pre-AI lenses. I'm not sure what that means exactly as I am a rookie, but we have a 1.8 and 2.8 lenses that are used to mount our Canon AE-1 camera. Through the wikipedia I learned that the AE-1 uses the Canon FD lens mount standard for connecting lens, which is already obsolete. I wonder if the Nikon D40 or D40x would able to ride these old lenses? Thank you.

There is not even close … FD lenses do not even fit in the current Canon DSLR Nikon Although you can use almost all lenses ever made since 1959 (not the D40, D40x or D60 yet … will use any of the AF-S lenses, made since 1985), Canon dropped their old FD lenses and who supported cameras, so that only EOS lenses (EF) which fit on Canon digital SLR
