Canon Powershot 1100
which camera is better for recording videos canon powershot sd 1100, 1200, or 780?
im gonna be doing guitar covers if that makes a difference.
please let me know the different features that each one has
The SD780 IS records video in HD (1280×720 @ 30fps) and the other two only record in VGA quality (640×480 @ 30fps).
So, for better quality video, the SD780 IS is the best one. However, HD video has VERY large file sizes (approx.10mins 53 secs of video per 2GB). You will need to buy a high speed SDHC card for recording HD video. I recommend the excellent Sandisk Extreme III SDHC in 4-8GB, depending on how much capacity you’ll need.
Also, make sure you always Format your brand new card before you use it the first time (via the camera Menu) and whenever you need to delete all files in one go.
I also recommend you buy an SDHC compatible card reader, because it’s a much faster method of transferring your files to the computer, compared to using the supplied USB cable.
p.s. don’t expect overly great audio quality because these ultra compact cameras have equally small sized internal microphones…if you’re not happy with the audio quality, I recommend an HD camcorder instead, because they have far superior audio recording capability.
good luck…
Canon Powershot 1100
ok, i’ve narrowed it down (again). now it’s between canon powershot 870 IS and 1100 IS. which would you pick?
give reasons, opinions, etc. thanks.
There’s not really much between these two cameras. They have the same amount of MP and the same sized sensor, so image quality should be very similar.
The SD870 IS (Ixus 860 IS) has the advantage of a 28mm wide starting focal length, which would be useful at times. And it appears to be a reasonably good wide angle lens. It’s main disadvantage is that it lacks an optical viewfinder, meaning you will always have to compose your shots with the LCD screen. That’s why it has the larger LCD.
It also has a ‘touch wheel’ that apparantly is a bit fiddly to use at times.
The SD1100 (Ixus 80 IS) has an optical viewfinder (which really comes in handy sometimes) and it has a slightly smaller LCD. It also has a slightly faster lens at the tele end.
Other than that they are just about the same. If you think you will never need an optical viewfinder, then the SD870 IS makes a good choice, with the 28mm wide angle in it’s favour.
If you can’t live without the viewfinder, the SD1100 IS makes a good choice (plus it’s available in various coloured bodies). I really prefer my cameras to have a viewfinder, though.
Both cameras have a battery rated at approx. 240 shots. Either one would be ok…check out the reviews below.
