how to make shallow depth or unfocus background with canon powershot sd 750?
does anyone know how to make the background unfocus (depth of field) with a REGULAR digital camera like the canon powershot sd 750? i try the macro digital on it when i take picture of text in a book upclose the front is unfocus the middle focu and the background is unfocus. but wen i try to take it as a potrait pic it doesnt work. i want a potrait pic with the subject focus while the background unfocus, does anyone know how i can achieve that? thanks a lot.
by the way, as far as i know the D.o.F. usually work in the dlsr than a regular digital camera like canon powershot sd 750.
Unfortunately it’s not possible. DOF is purely a function of the camera’s optics. DSLRs use different optics because they have different image sensors.
The text in the book was closer to the lens than the subject in a portrait would be. The closer you focus a lens, the shallower the DOF. This applies to all lenses on all cameras. If you tried taking the same picture with a DSLR, the DOF would be even shallower than what you saw.
If you need shallow depth of field, buy a second-hand D40 or Digital Rebel. There’s simply no way to do what you’re describing with an SD750.

Often web cams are used to show “live” images, like a video at a low frame rate. Still cameras like the SD750 take great still pictures.
A webcam is $20-$30 and does not need fancy lenses.
Of course, you can always connect your Canon with the USB cable to your computer and shoot digital images that way.
