Canon Powershot A490 Reviews
Looking for a camera?

Okay, so I got a camera for Christmas but both my mom and I are not too pleased with it. It’s a Canon Powershot a490 [I think that's the number] and it takes terrible indoor pictures. I’m looking for something like the Nikon Coolpix L120 but around $150. I know this is such a low budget for a new, not used, camera, but it’s all I can afford on a camera considering I will be going to Italy in two months, which is one of the reasons I need a camera.
I basically want a camera that has high resolution, nice quality without much “noise,” takes good indoor and outdoor photos, and gets action shots. I also like auto and manual settings.
I know this probably sounds impossible to find for my budget, but if there is such a camera I would love to know about it. I’ve been considering the Fujifilm FinePix S2950, but some reviews say that the indoor quality is pretty bad.

Anyone have any suggestions for me? I know it’s such a difficult request, haha.

I received the Fujifilm S2950 for Christmas and have been using it like crazy. I can’t even explain to you how much I was surprised at how amazing the quality was for such a cheap price. Outdoor pictures have so much detail and sharpness, and just overall great resolution. Indoor pictures are just as good from semi-dim light. In incredibly low light situations, it starts showing some noise. However, the flash is really great without overexposing or having that unnatural “flash” look.. if you know what I’m talking about? There is a burst mode on the camera for action shots and some basic manual settings. Not to mention there is an 18x zoom where the same quality is still retained at full zoom in outdoor situations. To be completely honest, if the lighting is mediocre, and you’re using the zoom to its full extent, it will sometimes take a few moments to focus, and at full zoom on some things will take two tries to focus (meaning halfway pushing down the shutter button and it tells you it couldn’t auto focus). This is the only con I have found so far with this camera. I am so amazed at the quality, pictures look practically professional. I have also heard good things about the Canon SX130 IS if you would like to research that a little bit as well. I hope this helped you out a little bit. :)
