Canon Powershot SD750 7.1 MP will not turn on?

About 6 months ago, I dropped my camera and the battery door fell off. I cannot locate it at the moment.
Is it possible for the camera to work without the battery door?
Will I have to buy a new door?
Did I possibly do more damage than I thought I did?

Thanks in advance! ;)
Of course I tried turning it on, it’s been broken for 6 months.

:p

Cameras that use lithium ion batteries don’t require a battery door to operate, unlike AA battery-operated cameras. You just need to secure the connection between the contacts of the battery and the camera. That’s what the door basically does; it pushes the battery into the camera and holds it there if there isn’t a specific battery lock.

However, most cameras disable the entire camera if it thinks the battery door is open. Some sort of message should appear on the LCD. It’s likely that manufacturers do this to prevent accidental memory card ejection from the memory card slot behind the door it shares with the battery. There should be a little socket somwhere near the sides of the battery door recess or by the hinge. When you find it, stuff something in it and it should fool the camera.

If the camera doesn’t turn on at all with a full battery securely fitted then there’s probably something else wrong with it. If it’s simply a battery door problem, you can order spare parts directly from Canon or from OEM part suppliers.

If you don’t wish to deal with a reseller, you can contact Canon’s North American parts department at (732)521-7230 or call Canon’s customer service center for further assistance. Make sure that you’re purchasing an entire battery door assembly, not just the door; the door alone does not include the lock switch. Keep in mind: a new battery door wont replace a broken camera. There’s no sense in buying a new door if the camera’s totalled.

Good luck.
