the camera screen turns black when it comes to taking a picture?

I have a Canon Powershot SD1100 IS digital camera. I know that the screen is not breaks because I can see the pictures. after taking a picture you can see the image and it shows. the screen shows what is recording when in video mode so I know for sure the screen is not broken.

You probably turned off the LCD screen. The camera has a viewfinder (the little hole you look through). Generally is a small button that says "EVF / LCD" or something like that. If not, you might have disabled the LCD screen in a menu somewhere again. Of However, if you look through the viewfinder, will probably be able to see what you're taking a picture.
