Canon Powershot G10 Digital Camera Reviews
Canon Powershot G10 Digital Camera Reviews
The Canon Powershot G10 comes with extremely high marks and extremely low marks when it comes to being an all around camera. Depending upon how you are to use this camera will be the deciding factor if this camera is for you.
Most of the reviews that have come in reference to the G10, give the camera high marks in its usability, with lots of features, increased megapixels ( as compared to the G9), with ease of picture adjustment, wider lens angle, good operation speed, and quality of pictures.
In this department of quality pictures, this is where this camera stands out from the rest. With picture quality on the level of many DSLR’s on the market, this camera makes for an enjoyable experience to take still pictures in the great outdoors. The problem comes in with this camera with motion pictures and any picture that requires an increase in ISO settings.
There also is a problem with those who use Adobe PhotoShop to tweak the pictures to your needs. Photoshop does not have support for the G10. Canon supplies software with the camera to utilize for picture enhancement, but quality of this program comes no where near that of photoshop. If your needs call for making small print pictures, or just to be viewed in digital picture books, or just for web graphics, you will be satisfied with what the Canon Powershot G10 has to offer.
If you are into customizing photos you may find the G10 is not to your liking. Many reviews have pointed to this element of the camera to be a problem.
As far as camera features are concerned, the controls are nicely laid out with all the things you need to compose your shot (exposure settings, macro/normal button, flash on/off etc) are all readily accessible on the right side of the camera body. It’s lightweight yet feels sturdy. It is highly compatible to accessories such as tele-converters, external flash units, and even a waterproof shell.
Canon has enlarged the LCD screen to 3″ of the G10, and has a much sharper and crisper screen than its predecessor, the G9. The new I-Contrast feature on the Powershot G10, greatly enhances high contrast shots, and although it may not create the perfectly contrasted picture, for the most part this camera is a great choice for what it was designed for.
For the professional, this camera is not one that would be in demand, but for the average camera user, this camera is all that you would want. When it comes to price, the market has become very competitive in the range of cameras in the likes of the G10. The Canon Powershot G10 entered the market at about $500, but now is selling considerably less.
Although, there is improvement that can be made in the Powershot G10, and you can probably say that about any camera on the market, with each camera having its own areas of pros and cons. Canon most assuredly will try to enhance this model further, if and when they introduce an upgraded model to market, but in the meantime if you are in the market for a camera now, this camera is good choice for one who is an average camera user, and looking for a good quality camera for its particular price range.
In conclusion, much of the success in using this camera comes in the settings department. Picture quality using the auto settings is good, but for those who like to tackle manual settings picture quality can be above average. I say can be, because it may take time to get use to the different settings to get picture quality to your satisfaction, but for most average users, the auto setting quality will be more than sufficient for even everyday use.
