Canon Powershot G9 Review
Whats the better camera, Canon Powershot G9 or G10?

Hi,
I am looking to replace my Canon PowerShot G7 with one of the newer versions, (G9 or G10). However, I have seen mixed reviews on both of them. I have decided to purchase one of them for sure, just want to know what the general consensus is on which one is the better one.

Please, can anyone give me any advice, tips, or guidelines on what to look for when purchasing this camera. I want to make sure I get the best camera for my money.

I will be waiting for any and all assistance I can get.

Thank you,
Stormphyre!

Both are good, the G10 is a generation on and with more resolution, it also has a wider lens (at the expense of the tele zoom) but for my tastes this is better, the wide angle on the G9 is only moderate at best.

If you like your G7 then the only practical reason to upgrade to a G9 would be for RAW mode, it’s essentially the same camera other than this.

The G10 is a better upgrade if you can sacrifice the zoom, but if your G7 ain’t broke I’m tempted to say keep running it for now. Theres always something better round the corner.

Another option to consider would be the EOS 1000D?….
A serious upgrade.

Canon is again ready to dominate the industry with the introduction of their PowerShot G10. Designed after G9, this camera is built with a 14.7 Megapixel CCD sensor, a 5X zoom lens with a wide angle end of 28-140mm, DIGIC IV imaging processor, a high resolution 3.0″ LCD Display with 461K dots, enhanced face detection software, image stabilizer, and E-TTL Flash Hot Shoe. By using DIGIC IV processors, the manufacturer claims an enhanced noise reduction, face detection, and motion detection performances. The camera is expected to hit the market by October at $499.95.

Standard components include a USB 2.0 cable and a NB-7L battery rechargeable lithium-ion pack capable of capturing up to 400 images. Canon G10 Digital Camera supports SD and SDHS memory cards. A 2GB professional secure SD card can only cost $ 27.50. SDHS cards are equipped with security features to protect sensitive data.

The 5X zoom lens may be a little bit lower than G9 which has a 6X zoom lens. Canon G10 Camera can produce high quality shots through a full resolution of ISO 1600. The High Sensitivity feature also allows ISO 3200 for small captures. In addition, the camera supports JPEG, RAW, and AVI files. The raw shot produced is compatible with Digital Photo Professional provided by Canon without compromising the quality of the image. Through the use of the software, images can be converted in to JPEG, TIFF, and other formats desire by the user.

The look of Canon G10 Digital Camera is similar to that of G9. Canon G10′s video files can play with 30 frame per second with a resolution of 640×480 and maximum image file size is 4416×3312 pixels.

If someone has this camera, can you send me some links to the kind of pictures it is capable of taking? THANKS SO MUCH. This is what I’m planning (if given good reviews) to give to my Dad’s for his Father’s day gift.

Yes, it’s got manual controls and is the choice of many pros as their “take everywhere” camera. It has a flash shoe, so it can be used with off camera flash if you want as well.

Here’s a link on flickr to shots with the G9. This will show you that the G9 has some great capability.

Here’s a shot by a pro showing it used with off camera lighting.
