Complicated HDMI audio and video recording based on computer question?

"I can use an HDMI cable from a video camera as my video channel on a hard drive without going through the audio signal and the use of another source for the audio? Probably going to be using an Apple PowerBook G4 1.67GHz Laptop (With 2 GB of RAM) running iMovie – I can do what I am suggesting here or I'm going to have problems? Probably going to be using a Canon PowerShot SX20 IS (720p) as the video source and a separate audio mixer as the source of sound. I can do this? Thanks to all those with good information!

It depends on the software. Some will just use HDMI audio if video using HDMI, some allow you to choose independently.

How can I play videos on TV?

hello:) actually record videos from my Canon PowerShot i, I can connect to TV via an HDMI cable and play movies on TV. But when I take videos from the memory card and try to give them not playing on television. Is there a specific format I need to change? thank you! x
