Canon Powershot Manual
Does Canon Powershot G9 have good manual controls?
Am thinking of learning photography, i’m trying to find a camera that produces good image quality and also has good manual controls. Currently am not looking to experimenting with different kinds of lens. For this, is the Canon Powershot G9 a good choice? Budget of < $500
Thanks!! I did look at the reviews of Canon Rebel XT, read in quite a few places that the lens kit (18mm-to-55mm f/3.5-to-f/5.6) is not good enough and its advisable to buy a better glass!! Some have suggested the Canon EF 24mm-to-70mm f/2.8 zoom which costs another 400 bucks. Your opinion?
Yes, this camera does have complete manual control as well as full automatic control and several options in between. You can also shoot in RAW format which is an excellent feature if you want to do some high tech or major image retouching.
It is an excellent choice for a high-quality point and shoot camera. If you spend a little time with the instruction book and practicing with the camera, it will take outstanding pictures for you.
The only drawback I see is that its price is high enough that you’re very close to the purchase price of a Digital Rebel XT which has mostly the same basic features but is far more flexible and will allow you to interchange lenses and to do more interesting things if you go a little farther with your photography. Before making a final buying decision for the G9, it would be worth at least giving some consideration to the Digital Rebel XT.
Both would be good cameras to learn on and and will take outstanding pictures for you. Good luck on your camera purchase.
Canon Powershot Manual

What are all the settings on the manual of the Canon A530?
It’s about time I learned to really use my camera.
I have a Canon PowerShot A530.
Any savvy users out there who can explain what the manual options are, or direct me to somewhere that does? I know nothing about cameras.
Thanks!
Yep, your camera’s manual features will let you take fantastic photos, much better than what you can take just in “Auto”. And speaking of “manual”, here it is:
