Why is my 10 megapixel camera and let me close crops with greater clarity than my 12.1 megapixel camera again?
I have October 1 megapixel Canon Powershot Pro1 which I love, but sometimes is too large to easily carry with me. I thought if I bought the new Sony DSC-W200, with its 12.1 megapixels, I would get the same (or better) ability to zoom and crop my photos (using zooming Software / Picasa not zoom the camera). When I compare the two I think I am able to expand even more and get much better clarity when zoomed in images taken in the 10 megapixel Canon Powershot Pro1 that when I do it with pictures of my new Sony DSC-W200 12.1. I tried to select similar types of image (in the sun for water) with similar focal lengths, but when I zoom to 100% with the Canon Pro1 I can get much closer to the subject that I can with Sony. Clarity is also much better in the Canon with a zoom closer. What other factors do I need to be considering when looking for the best ability of the crop in close to the subject pictures as clearly?
Two possible reasons: 1) Think of the photo diode in the sensor as a square (boat wiring, diode etc.) with a circle in it (the real photo diode). Now that we pack more of these in the same space, we have to make them smaller, this means that we need to royal circles smaller, so more light is lost result is poor image quality. 2) sensors offer more pixels, sometimes a more jpeg compression so that the resulting file size is not extinguished. To see if this is your problem, try shooting in RAW and see if there is much difference. (If your camera supports this)
