Canon Powershot Remote Shutter
Canon PowerShot S3 IS shutter cable?

Is there a shutter cable or digital remote for my Canon PowerShot S3 IS camera? I want to take portraits of my family and be in them, too. The timer is tedious. I have looked for a cable or remote online and have had no luck.

You can try the PC controlled shooting (via USB) available on your camera. You can use your big toe to hit the “Enter” key.

Some P&S cameras have the ability to respond to IR remote controls supplied by the camera manufacturers. Unfortunaltly yours does not .. nor does the newer S5 IS

Camera like Canon Powershot Pro 1?

Im looking for a camera that is like the canon powershot pro 1, mostly with these features, one of the flip-out LCD screens, and wireless shutter remote capability.

Canon never really made any successors to their slr-like, Pro 1…even though they did give some of their G series cameras similar features (RAW capability, wireless remote, flip-out LCD, etc.).

For superior image quality and performance, I recommend a dSLR, such as the XSi (450D) which has wireless remote capability. But you are losing the flip-out LCD (which I do admit, is quite cool) but you obviously don’t need it on a dSLR.

The next closest you will get is one of Canon’s super-zoom cameras. However, they do not have RAW shooting or wireless capabilty.

BUT…their latest model, the SX1 IS (which unfortunately is NOT going to be sold in the U.S. at this time) has some VERY interesting specs (10MP, CMOS sensor-although it’s small, 20x optical, USM, 4fps, full HD stereo movie recording, wireless remote, flip-out LCD). So, if you live in the U.S. forget about it…or you could look at it’s sibling, the SX10 IS, which has similar but lesser features.

If you’re used to shooting in RAW with your Pro 1, then I advise you to look at a dSLR instead…even if not, I would still recommend a dSLR.

p.s. these super-zoom cameras have an electronic viewfinder. Some people like them, but I hate them…compared to a good ol’ fashioned optical viewfinder.

good luck…
