I know one has 8MP and the other has 10MP, but would that really make a difference? How are these cameras different? Please let me know which one is the better buy, and why!

Thank you.

Yes, SD770, thinner, higher definition, and wider shooting angle

Where can I access Amazon Gold Box Deals?

You can access Gold Box offers very easily through an existing Amazon.com account. New customers see Gold Box offers just a few days after their first purchase. To access the offers there will be a gold icon in the upper right corner of most pages on the site. At the Amazon Gold Box Deals page you’ll find your daily Gold Box offers. Going to the site is time consuming and just isn’t the most effective way to get notifications of offers so you’ll need to seek specialized services that offer feeds.

Gold Box offers are accompanied by a discount coupon at an often steep discount to the regular price. You are given 60 minutes to decide whether or not to accept each offer. After this time has passed the offer expires.

To accept the offer you simply complete the checkout process within the allotted 60 minutes. The discount is automatically applied at the time of checkout. You can also select “Pass forever” to not purchase the product to see your next deal. Just remember you can’t go back. People often buy items as gifts or even resell on eBay.
How many Amazon Gold Box Deals can I purchase?

You can only buy one Gold Box item per day. Every day it’s a great set of items. Once you click the “Buy now!” button, all of your non-viewed Gold Box offers immediately expire. Don’t worry your next set of Gold Box offers begin once again in 24 hours.

When this happens you’ll want to be notified and there are services that provide special Amazon Gold Box Deals feeds that deliver offers directly to your inbox without you checking the site. Using RSS you should be able to grab a great deal everyday. Gift it, keep it or resell it!

Which digital camera should I get?

At some point, I’ll be looking into a DSLR but now is not that time. Right now I’m looking for a good (preferably great) point and shoot. I’d consider myself an advanced amateur at this point.

I’m currently torn between the Nikon Coolpix S600 (10mp), the Canon PowerShot SD770IS (10mp), Canon PowerShot SD950IS (12.1mp — I know the “more is better” argument but as I don’t really enlarge my pictures I’m a bit skeptical and it is a substantial price jump) and the Canon PowerShot SD890IS (10mp). I’m also sort of looking at Canon’s A series, specifically Canon PowerShot A650IS, but I’m not sure about the A-battery requirement. Any thoughts?

Anyone have any experience with any of these? Any insights? Based on what I’m looking at, would you recommend something totally different? I’m looking to order very quickly so any answers would be appreciated!
Then again, there’s also Nikon’s p5100 or p80.

I just bought the Canon PowerShot SD870 and love it. I also have a Canon EOS XT DSLR and took a class with it, so I knew what features I wanted in a point & shoot. I found the Canon PowerShot SD870 had more range of aperture and shutterspeed than some others I researched. It’s an 8MP; our instructor told us amateurs don’t need more than 8, unless you will regularly print LARGE photos (ie, posters).

I took both my cameras to Disney World and ended up using the PowerShot more than my DSLR.

I recommended the Nikon CoolPIx to my mom and she loves it but doesn’t need to change settings at this point. I would recommend the POwerShot over the CoolPIx for and advanced amateur. Good luck!
