One is a digital SLR and the other is a point and shoot. You can not compare, because they are completely different types of cameras. Do you know how to manually set ISO, aperture and shutter speed in a digital SLR? If not, get the Powershot.

Canon Camera Price Comparison?

I am thinking of buying a Canon Powershot SX30 IS digital camera – Amazon price £355.58 – to replace my Canon Powershot SX1 IS – Amazon price £499.99.
Can anyone tell me why the SX30, with more advanced features, eg more megapixels and larger optical zoom, is £144.41 cheaper?

One thing is, as far as I can tell, this camera is discontinued.

Usually when there’s a lower price it means less bells and whistles. Canon could have cut corners in certain areas when making this camera – different frame materials, cheaper lens glass and other things.

My real suggestion is this. If you’re going to spend that kind of money on a “bridge” camera why not
just by a dslr? A far better camera is the Rebel 1000D, I know because I own one. It’s only a few
pounds more than what you’re looking at and is much, much better quality all around.
