What is the difference between a Canon powershot SX20 & a Canon Eos Rebel XS (or Eos rebel XTi)?

I want to buy a new camera, but mine is a compact 7.2 mega pixels, so I want to know what is the best choice for me! :/

What should I buy the camera?

All right. I am in need of a new camera. The two that caught my attention are the following: Canon PowerShot SX20 IS Fujifilm FinePix S1700 and I'm not making professional pictures, but I want a bigger unit, so these two seem the best for me. I want to take pictures of good quality too. Please help me decide what would be the best! The tax is more expensive, but it seems to have many good features. The same goes for the Fujifilm. Help!
