Where do you find the serial number to a Quantaray 70-300mm lens for Canon?

I'm trying to find the serial number to track in case of theft. is the objective lens with a macro quantaray 70-300 180-300. there are a number on the opposite side of the lens from the macro switch, but I'm not sure if that's the correct number. Any advice? I have a Quantaray 2X DG teleconverter for canon, if you know where to put the serial number would be grateful: D
