external flash or new target for wedding photography?

Currently I have a Canon Rebel XSi with a Canon 17-55mm f/2.8. I have been asked to shoot for a wedding this coming fall. Like most of my photos are taken indoors in a reception room, I wonder if my goal is to provide enough light to take crisp, clear photos. I was thinking either the Canon 35 mm f / 1.4 L of the lens as it is a fast lens and something I might be using beside the wedding event, or I could add a Canon Speedlite 580EX II to my computer. What do you think would be a better choice since it can not pay so much at the moment.

Well, I would have preferred to have a flash .. Built-in flash (Guide number approx 13) not powerful enough to capture these events. Canon Speedlite 580EX II has a guide number of approximately 58 years, much more powerful than built in.. Of course, make use of a diffuser with flash .. As for lens, f / 2.8 is very good for these times … (After all these are not macro shots).
