Canon Speedlite 580ex Ii Kit
using a speed light for camera? image quality?
i use the canon 500d and the standard lens kits – 18-55m
image quality doesn’t seem as sharp as possible – especially when using the inbulit pop up flash
would a speed light say the – Canon Speedlite 580EX II?
enhance image quality, without over exposing or washing out the subject – especially in poor light environments
thankyou
Image sharpness has more to do with the lens quality and your ability to properly focus. But a pop-up flash does tend to “flatten” the subject since it is close to a direct line with the lens, whereas a hot shoe flash is lifted above that line and can be angled to bounce the light.
Is the 580 EX a great flash? Yes.
It is better than a pop-up flash? Definitely. BUT….while it does the best it can at determining the proper flash level in ETTL (auto mode), it is just a guesstimate. IF you take the time to read the 3/8″ thick manual that comes with it, you will find it is a workhorse that will handle a lot of your needs IF you know how to use it.
