What is a recommended flash and zoom lens for Canon EOS Rebel XS?

I've been photographing for a long time now, but really have not bought anything more for my camera. There are so many types and I have no idea what is good. What is a recommended type of flash and zoom?

If you have the standard 18-55 kit lens, which are basically good at the short end. So you need something to move into the realm of telephoto. A very good and cheap option is the Canon 55-200 f/4.5-5.6 USM. Another option for a little more money is the Canon 55-250 IS. Or was it a good complement for 1918-1955. Flash? The Canon 430EX is the best option for the "average" shooter that uses only the occasional flash. I prefer the 580EX, but I'm almost never without the flash mounted and ready.
