What lens should I get for my Rebel xsi?

I can’t stand the cheap kit lens from my Canon Rebel anymore! I was interested in getting a Canon 50mm f/1.4 USM for a reasonable price. I think last time I checked it was under $100, but I can’t find it as inexpensive online anymore…What other lenses can give me creamy bokeh and do well in low-light situations? I’m not a professional (though I wouldn’t object to a Leica lens :D ) and I experiment with street photography on my travels, portraits and simple snapshots (not so much into landscapes though).
Kit lens would be fine – did it not cause as much flare and had the little flimsy film ring around the focus not detached so easily (having a harder time focusing). Not as sharp as I would have liked it, either.

I think you mean the Canon 50mm f/1.8, that goes for about 90. The f/1.4 goes for about 350. The difference in picture quality, you aren’t going to be able to tell the difference. The real difference is in build quality, the 50mm f1.4 is built much better. You have to be careful with the f1.8, if you drop it, it will break. But other than that it’s a great lens. I also have it along with the XSi, and it rarely comes off my camera. If you want to see some pictures taken with it, here is my photostream, I have a set called 50mm f/1.8. Honestly, for 90 bucks, you really can’t go wrong. It is much sharper than the kit lens, produces better bokeh and is so much better in low light.

which camera insurance provider shall I go for?

I am an amature photographer and have just bought Canon EOS 30D with two lenses and looking to insure my equipment before something happens to it. Had nothing to do with camera insurers in the past so any advice would be appreciated i.e. most reliable, cheapest, best known insurer. thank you in advance.
P.S. Advice on where (online or high street) to buy camera accesories such us a bag (Kata or Lowerpro perhaps) and tripod (stable, but portable – min – 30 to 60cm and extended – around 150 – 170cm). Any tutorials on using DSLR and digital photography basics…? Thanks ;)

If you are not going to use the camera professionally, you could add it to your home contents insurance. You’ll need cover in and away from the home. I got a lowepro bag from Dixons, but Jessops on the high street has bags and other accessories too.
