Ef Ef-S Lenses
What is the difference between an EF and EF-S?

A Canon "EF" lens can be used on any Canon SLR camera a 35mm film in a cropped "sensor" to a digital SLR DSLR full-frame sensor. The Canon "EF-S lens can only be used in a Canon camera "sensor cropped" DSLR. The "S" in "EF-S" stands for "short back focus" which means that the rear the lens protrudes too far into the body of a 35 mm Canon or Canon digital SLR full-frame sensor and cause damage to the mirror.
