Ef S Lenses Vs Ef Lenses
trying to better understand lens options for a dslr (7d)?
Canon EF 50mm f1.4 USM vs Canon 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 EF IS USM vs Canon EF-S 18-200 mm IS vs Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM
to be used with a 7d for both still and video capture. I would love to work with a lens that has shallow depth of field that can blur backgrounds and bring attention to specific details. But I would also need a lens that can be used while shooting video. Since I heard the 7d doesn’t have a real “auto” setting for video (I think i’ve heard that.. could be wrong) would something like the 50mm f/1.4 give me a hard time when attempting to film with any sort of movement? What about the 100mm f/2.8. How would those lenses limit me?
Any help would be appreciated.. trying to better understand how each lens is different and what results they can produce. Thanks.
How many people buy an expensive and versatile camera and then have to ask how to use it and what different lenses do?
Most buyers of exepensive and versatile cameras.
You need a basic photography primer and you need to find out about stuff before jumping in the deep end. Sorry but that’s how it is with so many people.
Look at the number of similar Qs on here.
Buy a Ferrari then ask how to drive.
Nobody here knows what your filming style is so what lens you need is a complete mystery.
Look up some introductory photography sites or buy a book.
Then you’ll get all the answers for cameras, lenses, flash units, bellows, formats, depth of field, depth of focus, image size, bokeh control, lighting balance, colour balance, contrast ratios in prints and films, composition, high key, low key, the whole lot.
Have fun finding out. After twenty years I’m still finding out.
So are the rest of us old photo nuts.
Ef S Lenses Vs Ef Lenses
Canon EF-S 60mm f/2.8 vs. EF 100mm f/2.8?
From what I’ve heard, these are both great macro lenses. I’ve seen pictures taken with each lens on flickr, and the picture quality looks great. Yes I know that getting the same lens won’t necessarily give me the same results, but my real question is: which one would be better to use on my Canon Rebel XS? The 60mm was especially designed for cameras with a APS-C sized sensor, so should that be my choice?
Only you can decide the size of your lens based on what you’re going to use it for. You obviously understand that the 100 is much tighter than the 60 so again I say, it depends on your needs and planned usage.
Me I’d go for the 60 because I can always get closer to my subject but I rarely want to back away.
