Powershot G10
els Looking to get a new camera and torn between 2 models Canon Powershot G10 vs Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3?

I love the design of both camera’s..And the price is similar…I would love to hear which one is better and why thanks photo guru’s!

Overall quality, the Canon is better. They have been making cameras for a long time and know exactly what to place in there and their lenses are superior to most other brands.

Glasswise, the Lumix exceeds by far due to the Leica lens. Try to search how much a Leica camera costs (old or new) to appreciate it more. You may already know that the glass (lens) is the single most important part of a camera. It’s the one that receives the image for capturing and saving.

If you want more trouble-free shooting go for the Canon. If you value glass quality more, deal with the Lumix.

What’s best, a Canon powershot G10 or a Sony cybershot H50?

The cameras are very close in performance and features
The G10 boasts 14.7MP and an optical viewfinder.
The H50 has an impressive Zeiss lens and the electronic viewfinder shows what you’ll get with no parallax problems.

If this is going to be your only camera, I would weigh the slightly more compact G10 with the zoom capabilities of the H50. The G10 only zooms 5x with a max magnification power of about 3x normal vision while the H50 does 15x with a max mag power of about 9x normal vision.

The G10′s lens gathers in more light which may be important in dimly lit situations where you don’t want to use flash.

Sony is still stuck on using their proprietary Memory Stick Pro Duo which will run you at best about $15-20 for a 4GB card while the Canon uses standard SDHC cards which can be found on sale for about $8-10 for a 4GB card. Make sure that you get a class 6 SDHC card if you want to take movies and not the slow class 2 cards.

I would say that the G10 is a top tier point and shoot camera with advanced amateur capabilities while the H50 is a superzoom “bridge” camera for those who want a few DSLR features without the bulk and expense of the DSLR’s.
