Different Types of Sigma 17-70mm f2.8?

Recently I was thinking about buying a brand new camera lens with f2.8 aperture .. to search website i sigma officer to check all of your lenses. However, I learned that actually have more than one type of lens. This confuses me and I worry that I might choose the wrong target. And I read some of the review and given this good reviews, and I'm fine with that. but wonder what is the macro to do? uses for the macro function? or blur easily create object? I can not decide between the Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 and Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8-4.0?
